Parakeets

Parakeets belong to the parrot family and the word “parakeet” means long tail. They are small to medium sized parrots with long, tapered tail feathers rather than having the stockier bodies and more square-shaped tails found on larger parrots.

Habitat: Dry deciduous forest, cultivation. Common. non-migratory. Declining

Malabar Parakeet

Geography: Western ghats from Maharashtra to Kerala.
Size: 38 cm
Habitat: Moist deciduous forest. Locally common but declining

Nesting Period: February – June,Nest box height from ground: 11 – 15ft,Nest box: 70mm entrance hole diameter box with extended front due to parakeets long tail
